Where once the muleteers carried the hard cheese to Italian markets and exchanged it for wine, corn, rice, spices, and cloth before returning to the mountain valleys, we discover impressive cultures and unique cultural landscapes.
From the charming shores of Lake Lucerne up to the mountain valley of Engelberg. Along the way, we discover numerous cultural and historical sights, such as the village center of Stans, the monastic sustenance at Grafenort, and Engelberg Monastery.

The Via Sbrinz starts at the boat pier in Stansstad. From there, the route leads to the Stansstad train station. There, you go under the railway line and the highway and reach the promenade by Lake Alpnach. From there, take the path to the left through residential areas towards Rotzberg, along the forest to the Rotzring settlement. The route continues over the meadow path to Hostatt and Löwengrube. Here the path crosses the main road to Allweg.

Stans - Dallenwil

From the St. Joseph Chapel, take the slightly ascending path to the edge of Stans village and through old lanes to the historic village square. The path then passes the monastery towards Oberdorf to the St. Heinrich Chapel. In Oberdorf cross the Bergstrasse Huob and follow the meadow path past farms to the wood-processing area Geren. Then along the railway line to the old village road leading to the village of Dallenwil.

Dallenwil - Wolfenschiessen

Starting from the "Städtli" Dallenwil with its many restaurants, take the path past an old arch bridge over the Engelbergeraa. Through the gate of a historic sawmill and along the Engelbergeraa it goes to Wolfenschiessen and further to Grafenort.

Before Wolfenschiessen, you can cross the Engelbergeraa and stroll through the village. At the end of the village, a historic wooden bridge leads back to the other side of the river and on towards Grafenort. Past the Hechhuis, an old stone bridge, and small aerial cable cars, the path leads to Grafenort.

Grafenort - Engelberg

In Grafenort, cross the Engelbergeraa over the curved wooden bridge. Straight ahead the path passes the manor house to the Grafenort guesthouse. The path continues along the Engelbergeraa through wooded areas to Obermatt and Engelberg. The path is well signposted to the monastery village of Engelberg. Crossing the Aas gorge is a special nature experience.
