Hike
Exciting circular hike from Saliboden via the Charetalp with an alpine settlement dating back to the year 1000.

The starting point of the hike is Saliboden. From here, the Glattalp can be reached either on foot or comfortably by aerial cableway. Halfway there is the Märenbrunnen on the right, a spring high up in the rock to be admired. The Glattalp is one of the most scenic areas and is known for the Siberian temperatures (down to -50° C). Past chapel and SAC hut, the path leads to the Pfaff, a breathtaking viewpoint. The view towards the northeast widens, and before us lie the huge plateau of the Charetalp and the wild karst fields around the Pfannenstock. Unlike the Glattalp, where hundreds of cattle graze, mainly sheep are encountered on Charetalp and Brunalpeli. On the Charetalp is the archaeological deserted settlement "Spielplätz," investigated in 1982, an alpine settlement long abandoned dating back to the year 1000.

We continue to the Riedbödeli, an alp on a plateau. The whole area looks like a cake that has collapsed in the middle. To the right, the Karrenfelder rise. In the plain, one encounters crater-like ground collapses repeatedly. The shepherd who has lived on this alp in summer for almost 50 years since the end of the 1960s used the designation Charenalp. However, the designation Charetalp is generally known.

Past the Milchblätz, an alp with good, milk-producing grass, the path returns to the starting point Saliboden.
