The winds play an important role in the Alpine valleys. They largely determine the weather and the temperature in the valley.

The wind turbines on the Gütsch are an important energy source for the entire region. The wind education trail at the wind power plant on the Gütsch above Andermatt explains the different winds and provides an exciting insight into the ancient weather rules. The trail shows the importance of the sometimes bothersome wind, and hikers also learn a lot about cloud formations and the flora and fauna of the Gotthard region. The trail also teaches historical aspects and facts about energy generation. In addition, there is a fantastic view over various valleys and mountain ranges. With a lot of luck, you may also spot marmots.

Safety guidelines

Hikers should keep an eye on the weather forecast in advance because parts of the hike are above 2000 m (6562 ft) above sea level and, in extreme cases, there may be light snowfall.

Pay attention to the weather forecasts. In the Alps, the weather can change quickly.
