The route takes us around Hallwil Lake in the Seetal region spanning Aargau and Lucerne. Sometimes on the hills, sometimes by the lake, the route offers plenty of variety.

Right from the start in Beinwil, it goes up to the forest and through the hamlet of Lüsch towards Schwarzenbach, where we turn onto a field path shortly beforehand and can enjoy the downhill. In the forest, it goes down on dirty paths, which children will love. In Ermensee we ride along the Aabach and continue across the fields and on the bike path to Aesch, then along the lake to Meisterschwanden. We can quench our thirst at Restaurant Seerose before it goes up into the forest again and away from the lake, this is the only way to avoid traffic. Then, at brisk pace, it goes down to Seengen and to Hallwyl Castle, the most beautiful water castle in Switzerland. In Boniswil it gets tough again, steeply uphill. Once at the top, we can stop again at Häfniweiher. Via Birrwil, we return to Beinwil on the bike path.

The route can be shortened by boat (from Aesch, Seerose, or Meisterschwanden Delfin back to Beinwil) or by train (from Boniswil).

Directions

From Beinwil train station on the bike path towards Reinach, turn left at the highest point and go up the Rupphügel, then into the forest and straight on the forest road until the street, continue on this towards Lüsch, then towards Schwarzenbach. Shortly after the cross, turn left downwards on the field path and continue through the Brünneliwald (quite rough) and on to Ermensee. Along the Aabach past the Mülifeld to Riedmatt, on the bike path to Aesch. There follow route 56 to Meisterschwanden. There, instead of heading towards the Restaurant Delfin, go up on the other side to Weieracher. Over the Buchermoos and behind Langenmoos downwards through the Altholz to Seengen and further to Hallwyl Castle. In Boniswil, go up the Pfaffenhalde to the Häfniweiher at Birrwil, from there back to Beinwil on the bike path.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

Unfortunately, there is no nicer family-friendly and largely car-free bike path around Hallwil Lake.
