Tour
Gitschital Bike offers you a fantastic combination between Lake Lucerne and a mountain valley. This varied route, sprinkled with nourishing climbs, takes you to a quiet and remote side valley.

From Altdorf station, you travel north to Wild Ried and then west along a field path to Unterdorf. In addition to a visit to A Pro Castle and its mineral exhibition, a detour to Lake Uri with its bathing islands called Lorelei is recommended. After the turnoff at St. Lazarus Monastery, whose origins date back to the Middle Ages and which is the oldest monastery in the canton of Uri, the route steadily climbs to the Gitschital forest road. This winding road with its sharp climbs is challenging. Before entering the tunnel into the Gitschital, you should definitely stop at the Stotzigen viewpoint – the view of the Reuss delta is overwhelming. The last 3 kilometers take you through cool forest sections and alpine meadows before reaching the Gitschitaler Boden, the highest point of the route. From there, you descend the same way to Bodenwald. Then you roll south over the Freiherrendorf, with a view of the historic ruins of Attinghausen Castle, back to the starting point.
