Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament

The tour starts at Giswil station and follows the foot/cycling path to the school and the Durnacheli. Here you are in the middle of a widely scattered village. This type of settlement has its origin in the era of the Alemanni tribes. At the school, you head for the Laui, one of the largest and most dangerous torrents in Switzerland. This can be crossed via a wooden walkway, where soon after the "old church" appears, which is a memorial to the Laui flooding of 1629. This quiet place gives strength for the next stage, which follows first Helferweg and then the Altibach towards Emmetti.

But first you discover the wonderfully restored water-powered saw on Geristrasse, which is unique in Switzerland. The path follows an unmetalled road, steep at times, through the Emmeti Forest to the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament above Giswil, where a spring provides welcome refreshment.

The way back leads to Alp Emmetti with its splendid views of Lake Lungern, the Brünig Pass and the Bernese Alps. It continues to Bürglen, a hamlet in the highest Obwalden municipality of Lungern. If you are feeling up to it, you can cycle around Lake Lungern (variant B) or ride directly from Bürglen to Kaiserstuhl. The route follows the well-known Way of St James to Giswil. After some wonderful MTB sections in the forest, you approach the part of the village with Giswil station where you started. A restaurant with garden there offers refreshments while you reflect on what you have experienced in this lovely part of the country.
