The start of this easy mountain bike tour, in a beautiful closed valley with a unique lake landscape, leads through Sachseln above the right bank of the lake. After Sachseln you come to the capital of Obwalden, Sarnen. Here stands the Hexen Tower with its unique White Book of Sarnen. The Tell story is told in it. Landenberg Castle towers above Sarnen, from where foreign occupiers were expelled long ago.
After that, the quiet road leads to Wilen, a slepy hamlet. 120 metres of elevation gain lead via Oberwilen and you soon reach the delightful, shady forest with ancient streams. These are charming when there is little water, but wild after a thunderstorm.
After the forest, you ride past the attractive outdoor pool at Giswil campsite. A good place to stop off and linger.
