Farmers’ educational trail around the Etzel

The hike leads from Schindellegi along the Etzel to Einsiedeln. 14 information boards provide hikers with a lot of interesting facts about Schwyz agriculture.

The wonderful hiking area between Schindellegi and Einsiedeln, around the Etzel, offers a huge variety of natural experiences. The landscape presents itself like an open picture book. Landscape and people live together every day, in rain, snow, and sunshine. The farming families cultivate this landscape and are happy to show how and where they work. 14 information boards provide a lot of interesting facts about Schwyz agriculture. Livestock and dairy farming, fruit and viticulture, meadows and their indicator plants, the peculiarities of lowland and raised bogs, organic farming, rural energy production, and many other exciting topics are explained.

Directions

The farmers’ educational trail starts at Schindellegi station. Passing the village church and along the Sihl riverbank, you will soon cross the Sihl and climb up to Büel. On the south side of the Etzel, with a wonderful panoramic view, you reach St. Meinrad. Down through the romantic Jureten to Egg and over the Roblosen nature reserve you follow the Sihlsee lake to the impressive Einsiedeln Monastery. From here, you proceed to the modern show dairy of the milk manufactory, which features a charming restaurant and regional products.
