On the sunny terrace above Illgau, not far from the main town of Schwyz, a lovely landscape with gentle hills opens up. Since the secluded area radiates a special tranquility, it is very popular among snowshoe hikers and nature lovers.

Just one mountain ride with the two cable cars Illgau-Ried and Illgau-St. Karl away lies an untouched winter landscape far from traffic, noise, and the bustling winter sports operation: Here above the 790-inhabitant village of Illgau, the circular route begins.

As lovely as the landscape, so gentle is the ascent that leads over Federenberg to the highest point, the Sternenegg. Since all altitude meters are covered, the view of Muotathal, the Uri mountains, Lake Lucerne, and the Mythen is especially delightful.

As with the ascent, open terrain and forest sections alternate on the return to the starting point, and the path leads us past cozy alpine huts. The descent via Ober Altberg and Oberberg is also gentle due to the landscape. Finally, take a last deep breath before returning to the valley again with the nostalgically appearing cable cars.
