The last stage of the Obwalden High Trail begins on the Oberlachen Alp above the Storegg Pass. The trail first leads towards Storegghorn. You hike along narrow mountain paths through a peaceful and pristine mountain landscape.
The path is partly secured with chains and ladders and leads to the Lachengrätli. From here, the view is impressive: from the Titlis to the Gross Spannort and the Walenstöcken.
A zigzag path then leads through the forest up to Schluchigrat. A particularly beautiful section of the hike begins here. The path follows the ridge for around half an hour. The view stretches as far as the high peaks of the Bernese Oberland.
A short but exposed section awaits at the Wagenleis rocky ridge, also known as Charren. This section is secured with ropes and requires surefootedness and a head for heights. The route then continues over the Schluchberg to the Gräfimattstand.
The trail now leads over a panoramic ridge to the Arvigrat. New views open up again and again - from the Pilatus to the Rigi and far into the Mittelland.
After around three hours, you reach the Ächerli Pass. From here, it is worth making a short detour to the small wooden chapel. It commemorates the French invasion of 1798 and offers a beautiful view of Lake Sarnen and the Pilatus mountain range.
The last section leads up to the Stanserhorn. At first the path climbs gently, later it becomes steeper. Many steps lead to the circular trail on the summit.
The end of the Obwalden High Trail is spectacular: from the Stanserhorn you can see up to ten lakes and over 100 kilometers of the Alps. The return journey is a special experience: the convertible train with open upper deck takes guests down to the middle station, from where the historic funicular continues to Stans.
