The Ostergau is a nature reserve of national importance that has been home to a remarkable diversity of species for over fifty years. After intensive peat exploitation during the First World War, the canton of Lucerne placed the area under protection in 1965. Thanks to targeted measures, rare species such as the lapwing and the newt have found a habitat here. A small network of paths leads along the fish-rich ponds, where visitors can experience the impressive flora and fauna up close.
